The Twisted Sisters are three Texas Ranch Roads, RR 335, 336, and 337, that link up into a roughly 100-mile loop through the canyon country of the western Hill Country, west of San Antonio. It's the best-known motorcycle and sports-car ride in Texas: lightly traveled two-lanes that climb and dive across the headwaters of the Frio, Nueces, and Sabinal rivers, with long sightlines, sudden dips, and the occasional low-water crossing.

The town of Leakey is the hub everyone bases out of. The classic loop runs RR 337 west to Camp Wood, climbs RR 335 up the divide, crosses the top of the loop, and drops RR 336 back south to Leakey. RR 337, the run between Leakey, Vanderpool, and Camp Wood, is the most celebrated of the three, regularly named among the best motorcycle roads in the country.

The loop is remote, so fuel up in Leakey, Camp Wood, or Vanderpool, because there's little in between. Watch for free-ranging livestock, white-tail and exotic axis deer, and water across the road at the low crossings after rain. Fully paved, best in spring and fall.

Leakey
The hub of the Twisted Sisters, a small town on the Frio River where riders and drivers base out for the loop. The start sits on S Market Street downtown, with fuel, food, and the junction of the three ranch roads.
Camp Wood
A small town on the Nueces at the western corner of the loop, where RR 337's celebrated run from Leakey ends and the climb up RR 335 begins. The most famous of the three sisters, RR 337, is the leg in from Leakey.

The high, remote middle of RR 335, the loop's northwestern climb up the divide out of the Nueces country, all long straights and sweeping curves through empty ranchland toward the top of the loop.
