Clickable places on the basemap, a location dot you can act on and a round of search polish on mobile

Plot Along 2.5.17 makes the map easier to act on. Three things you could only look at before will answer a click now. The search pin, your own location dot and the places the basemap draws all open a menu, and search picks up a round of polish on a phone.

  • Better search experience on mobile. The search bar now uses a larger font size that makes it easier to read.
  • Landmarks turn up without naming the region. Results mix nearby matches with well-known ones by confidence, so searching “pikes peak” from Puget Sound finds Pikes Peak, Colorado.
  • Tap a result to drop a pin. The pin holds its ground through zoom, pan and right-click, and its menu carries Add to route, Copy address, Copy coordinates and Remove. Refreshing clears it.
  • Coach hints stay dismissed. Tap a hint away and it stays away, on new routes and on your next visit.

Points You Can Act On

  • Places on the basemap are clickable. Click a labeled place and its menu opens with the name, category and address, offering the same Add to route and copy actions you get anywhere else on the map.
  • So is your location dot. Clicking it opens that same menu for your own coordinates, and it’s a real button, so the keyboard reaches it too.
  • Add mode waits for you. The editor used to open armed with a crosshair whenever a map had no waypoints, so your first click dropped a point you never asked for. Now you switch add mode on when you want it, with a hint beside the toggle.

On a Small Screen

  • Change Plan fills the screen. Below tablet width, this dialog goes edge to edge instead of floating over a backdrop. Tablet and larger keep the centered treatment.
  • The waypoints sheet opens at the top. It no longer restores wherever you last scrolled to, and the name field stopped offering browser autocomplete.
