Frequently asked questions
Everything you might want to know before you start planning, from real-time collaboration and GPS exports to billing and your data.
Planning and collaborating
- How do I plan a group trip online?
- Make a map, drop a waypoint for each stop and send your group the link. Everyone you invite can add stops and reorder the route, and every change shows up for everyone the moment it happens. The route follows the roads you choose, not just the shortest travel time between stops.
- Why not just plan the trip in Google Maps?
- Google Maps is great at directing you to a place but can’t save or share your plans. A route caps out at 10 stops, there is no way to save a trip you can edit later and nobody can build it with you. Plot Along holds the plan, and when it is time to drive, you and your fellow roadtrippers can open the route in everyone’s preferred turn-by-turn directions app, including Google Maps, Apple Maps, GPS devices and more.
- Can we edit the same map at the same time?
- Yes, everyone on a map sees everyone else’s cursor and every edit as it happens. No refreshing or taking turns at the helm required.
- How do I share a route with more than one person?
- Publish the map as a view-only link you can text, email, drop in the group chat or show as a QR code in person. Editing is by invitation: send each co-planner a private invite, so a link floating around the chat never carries edit rights.
- Can I control who can edit a route versus just view it?
- Yes. Each person gets view, edit or manage access, and you can mix them: publish a view-only link for the whole group and give edit access to your co-planners.
- How many people can I invite to collaborate?
- The free plan covers you and one other planner. The paid Hobby and Pro plans raise that for bigger groups; the current numbers for each plan are on the pricing page.
Exporting and navigating
- Can I keep the route off the highway?
- Yes. Tell Plot Along to avoid highways, or drop a waypoint on the road you actually want, and the route keeps those roads. Unlike most map apps, Plot Along never redraws your plan behind your back.
- What can I export my route to?
- Open a route straight in Google Maps, Apple Maps or Waze, or export it as GPX, KML, GeoJSON or CSV for Garmin, Wahoo, Ride with GPS and nearly everything else. Export to everyday driving apps for free.
- Does Plot Along work with my Garmin or other GPS device?
- Yes. Export the route as GPX and load it onto your Garmin, Wahoo or any unit that reads GPX, which is nearly all of them. KML and GeoJSON are there too if your device is picky.
- What devices and browsers does Plot Along run on?
- Any modern browser, nothing to install. Plan on the laptop, tweak on your phone, pull it up from the passenger seat. Your maps sync across devices automatically. Use Add to Home Screen on your phone, or install it as an app from Chrome’s menu.
Plans, billing and your data
- Is Plot Along free to use?
- Yes. The Basic plan is free forever and never asks for a credit card. The paid Hobby and Pro plans add bigger limits and more export formats; the pricing page has the full breakdown.
- How many routes can I create on each plan?
- The free plan includes a set number of saved routes, and Hobby and Pro make routes unlimited while raising limits on waypoints, distance and collaborators too. Everything you make is saved to your library automatically. Current limits are on the pricing page.
- Do you offer a free trial?
- Some paid plans include one. When a trial is available you will see it on the pricing page, and you can cancel online at any time.
- How do I cancel, and can I get a refund?
- Cancel any time from Account, then Subscription, in the app. You keep paid features until the end of the billing period and are not charged again. If something is not right, email support@plotalong.app and we will sort it out. The refund policy has the details.
- What happens to my maps and data if I cancel or stop paying?
- Your maps stay yours. When a paid period ends your account moves to the free plan, and everything you built stays saved even if features beyond the free limits lock. We do not sell your data. The refund policy explains how downgrades work.
